Bugnara is a medieval village with all the amenities. It has three bars, one of which has WiFi, a take-away pizza shop, a pizza restaurant, which also sells take away pizza (so you can enjoy pizza in your own garden!), a hotel also with a restaurant, shops, hairdressers, post office, chemist and four churches. There is a regular bus service to the surrounding area, including Scanno and Sulmona. Bugnara is in the Club of 'The most beautiful villages of Italy' this is the page just about Bugnara.
In the summer Bugnara and surrounding villages, have many festivals, as well as organised events.
The biggest event in Bugnara is the Romantica Weekend Flower Festivalthis year it is on Saturday 28th July.There is music in various parts of the village, stalls serving local food and wine, entertainment all over the weekend for more details click here and here for the map of the village events
Just outside Bugnara is a Donkey Sanctuary where you can ride or walk in the forests with the donkeys and also has a restaurant with music in the summer months.
The village is very well situated, being only a few minutes drive from the motorway and Sulmona, which is an ancient city full of history. There you will find facilities such as supermarkets, (which include Lidls, Conad, Eurospin and Co-Op) shopping centres, bars, restaurants, museums, a theatre, cinema, sports complexes and railway station, in addition to many fine buildings, churches and parks. From Sulmona regular buses and trains will take you straight into Rome, Pescara and other cities. The beach at Pescara is only a short walk from the train station.
As well as the nearby beaches, Sulmona has an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and at Corfinio there is a waterpark.
Sulmona has a huge lively market every Wednesday and Saturday where you can buy fresh local produce, clothing, toys etc and nearby Raiano has a large and vibrant market held every Sunday morning.
As well as walking and trekking in the nearby National Parks, there is skiing at nearby Roccarasso, Campo di Giove and Scanno all within 30 minutes drive away.
Sulmona and the surrounding villages have a large calendar of events which include many festivals. Sulmona's Easter celebrations and the annual International Giostra competitions in July and August are of particular note and not to be missed, with medieval pageantry parades.
